Heading for Segregation?

First public gay high school to open in NYC

So, I'm kinda divided on this. In the first place, I remember the harassment one of the guys in my high school received simply because others thought he was gay. He never came out and said so, but it was perceived as such, and as a result, I imagine his high school years couldn't have been fun. I imagine if he'd had such a place, it would have been much better for him.

It does create segregation, however, and that never seems to work. In the 50's and 60's, segregation was a big issue, keeping black people in their own schools. Yes, that's a different sort, as it was a forced segregation, and they didn't receive near the standard of teaching that white kids get.

I have absolutely no problems with someone deciding they're gay or not. Your sexuality doesn't make you who you are, ultimately. I think the whole separation thing is what I'm puzzling over.

And this would probably be more coherent if I'd had my caffeine beforehand.
